MUMBAI: As the BCCI grapples with the massive problem of kick-starting domestic cricket amidst a surge in coronavirus cases, the Cricket Association of Pondicherry (CAP) has offered to host teams from two zones in a secure bio-bubble.
CAP is ready to provide the BCCI with six first-class grounds, which are newly-developed, with teams to be lodged in four-star hotels.
“We can offer six beautiful grounds which can stage first-class cricket for this season. All the grounds are ready and (we) can house two zonal teams in 4-star hotels for four to five months. We can provide the sort of bio-secure environment which UAE did for IPL,” a top CAP official told TOI on Wednesday.
“We can assure that there won’t be any hassles in smoothly hosting first-class matches in Pondicherry.”
It’s learnt that CAP has already made the offer to BCCI president Sourav Ganguly.
After the addition of new teams from North-East and elsewhere a couple of years ago following a Supreme Court order, there are now 38 teams in domestic cricket. This has meant that the board needs many grounds to conduct first-class cricket.
